Ramadan 2027: When to Book Your Taraweeh Hafiz
Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, depending on the moon sighting where you are. That puts the first night of Taraweeh earlier in the year than many committees are used to, and it means the search for a hafiz needs to start this autumn, not in January.
Why earlier matters this year
Experienced huffaaz are usually committed weeks or months before Ramadan. Masjids that start looking after the new year often find the reciters they wanted have already agreed elsewhere, and end up asking for “anyone who knows a hafiz” in the last fortnight.
A simple timeline
- October and November: agree as a committee what you need: a full khatm or a juz a night, one reciter or a shared mihrab, and which riwayah your congregation expects.
- November: decide what you can offer: honorarium, accommodation, food and travel. Writing this down early makes every conversation easier.
- November to December: approach reciters, listen to their recitation and check references.
- December: confirm in writing: dates, nightly portion, honorarium, accommodation and what happens if someone falls ill.
- January: share the plan with your congregation and arrange a back-up reciter.
If the hafiz is travelling from abroad
Allow extra time. Visas, flights and accommodation all need arranging, and the hafiz will want certainty before committing. If you are open to a reciter from abroad, say so from the start.
Let the search come to you
Qiyam, our Taraweeh programme, matches masjids with vetted huffaaz. Tell us what your mihrab needs, including whether you want someone local, from elsewhere in your country or from abroad, and what you can provide. Request a reciter.
